Commonwealth Games - The First Few Days

I thought this was a good opportunity to start the blog.

I'm sitting outside the Athletes' Lounge at the fullbore range which is just behind the 1000 yard firing point.  We can just about see the 500 metre firing point through the fog that rolled in this morning after we had our first practice shoot. So I now have some time to write a few words on the blog.  (Just to clarify, I haven't made a mistake - we are shooting 300, 500 and 600 metres and 900 and 1000 yards.)

After the Queen's Final we packed up our kit (those bits that hadn't melted) and put it on a courier van that brought it direct to Barry Buddon. Peter Jory, Rick Le Page (our manager) and I then caught a plane from Southampton to Glasgow on Sunday morning.

The "village" in Glasgow is well equipped and well organised.  The Guernsey enclave is well endowed with flags so was easy to find.

We spent one night in Glasgow and travelled to Barry Buddon yesterday morning, in time to get a couple of shoots in at 500m and 600m.  Wind conditions were easy - about 1 right and very stable.  The military style, sloping, firing points take a bit of getting used to but they're actually fine.

After shooting, Peter and I walked the range.  It's sheltered all the way down the right hand side.

We are staying at the Carnoustie hotel.  It's right on the famous golf links and only a couple of miles walk from the ranges.

Yesterday evening we had supper at the hotel and then had a pleasant time sitting on the patio playing euchre.

Anyway, that's way too much for now.  Back to watching the fog...
